Blueberry Vanilla Latte

This blueberry vanilla latte is lightly sweetened, packed with real blueberry flavor, and tastes a little like enjoying a blueberry muffin alongside your morning coffee.

Blueberry Vanilla Latte

I originally made this on a whim after spotting a bag of frozen blueberries in the freezer, and honestly, I wasn’t expecting to love it as much as I did. As the blueberries simmer down, they create a sweet, jammy compote that adds so much fresh flavor to the latte. Meanwhile, the vanilla brings a little extra warmth and makes the whole drink feel just a bit more special.

The result is a fun afternoon coffee treat that feels like something you’d order at a coffee shop, yet it’s incredibly simple to make at home.

Even better, the blueberry compote doesn’t have to stop at coffee. Once I have a jar in the fridge, I find myself reaching for it throughout the week. Sometimes I’ll spoon it over pancakes, other times I’ll drizzle it onto peanut butter toast, and it’s also delicious stirred into plain yogurt for an easy breakfast or snack.

Main Ingredients & Swaps

  • Blueberries – Frozen wild blueberries work beautifully, but fresh blueberries can also be used.
  • Sugar – Just enough to sweeten the berries while still letting their natural flavor shine.
  • Vanilla bean paste – This really is what takes this recipe to the next level. Vanilla extract can be substituted if needed.
  • Espresso – The rich coffee balances the sweetness of the blueberry compote.
  • Milk – Use your favorite milk. Whole milk creates a creamier latte.
  • Heavy cream – Just a splash adds extra richness and gives the latte a coffee shop feel.

How I Make It

I start by simmering the blueberries, water, and sugar together until the berries soften and begin to break down. As the mixture cooks, it thickens into a sweet and flavorful compote. Once it has cooled slightly, I stir in the vanilla bean paste and transfer everything to a jar to finish cooling.

When I’m ready to make a latte, I fill a glass with ice and spoon in some of the blueberry compote. Next, I pour in a chilled shot of espresso, which balances the sweetness of the berries beautifully. Finally, I add the milk and a splash of heavy cream for extra richness. After a quick stir, it’s ready to enjoy. The whole process takes just a few minutes and feels like such a fun little coffee shop treat at home.
