Prep Time 10 minutes
Rest Time 2 hours
Total Time 2 hours 10 minutes
Servings 4 -8 Pizzas

Ingredients

  • 1 28oz can whole tomatoes (I prefer Cento San Marzano here)
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon coarse kosher salt Use 3/4 teaspoon if using fine sea salt or table salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp red wine vinegar

Instructions

  • Open the can of tomatoes and pour them into a large bowl.
  • Using clean hands, crush the tomatoes until broken down into small pieces.
  • Add basil, oregano, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
  • Add the red wine vinegar and mix well to combine.
  • Cover the bowl and let the sauce rest at room temperature for about 2 hours before using.

Notes

  • This sauce is intentionally simple and no cook, making it perfect for kids to help with.
  • Letting the sauce rest allows the flavors to meld and improves the overall taste.
  • Use a thin layer on pizza so the crust stays light and crisp.
  • Leftover sauce can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
