  • 1 Instant Pot

Ingredients

  • 4 cups water or broth
  • 4 cups dry macaroni pasta
  • 4 tbsp butter divided: 1 tablespoon before cooking and 3 after when making the sauce
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp dry mustard powder
  • 1 tsp hot sauce optional, adds more punch
  • 3 cups of shredded cheese of choice Yummy options: cheddar, monterey jack, swiss, gruyere, fontina. Best to shred your own!
  • 1/4-1/2 cup whole milk For thinning the sauce

Instructions

  • Add the pasta, water, 1 tbsp butter, salt, onion powder, dry mustard, and hot sauce to the instant pot. Close the lid, seal, and cook on high pressure for 4 minutes.
  • Manually release the pressure to remove steam and open the lid. Give the pasta a stir and add in 3 tbsp butter. While stirring, add in the 3 cups of shredded cheese and just keep stirring vigorously as it melts into a sauce. Slowly add in milk as needed until you reach the desired consistency.
